“I had been doing CrossFit for just three months [maybe less] and three weeks prior I had tried to quit in the middle of rowing, saying there was no way I could row 1K, I just couldn’t do it.

One of the coaches said to me, just keep going, you can do it. So I did. And I finished.
The following week, I did it twice in one workout.

…One day the workout was a 5K row. I almost didn’t go…but I did anyway. When the coach was talking to people about what each should strive for, he said to me “try to do it under 30 minutes.” I thought to myself, I’m never going to finish, let alone finish in under 30 minutes. He gave me benchmarks to watch for on the rower that would tell me how I was doing.

So I started. And kept going. I was able to hit the benchmarks. I think I actually hit a meditative state and kept going. I was aware of the other people finishing, but I didn’t care, I was used to finishing last and that is OK RisingStar; you are only competing against yourself. I was aware of my coach going behind me, looking at the rower screen, and looking happy.

I finished at 24:53.

I was elated! When I was driving home, I had to stop for gas. There was a cop filling up his car. I almost went up to him and told him that I FINISHED A 5K ROW!
